Women's Track & Field Competes at Terrier Classic

Seven student-athletes in action at multi-divisional meet at Boston University

BOSTON, Mass. - Seven members of the UMass Dartmouth women's track & field team were in action on Friday, competing at the 2026 John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University. The Corsairs had a number of solid finishes at the competitive and multi-divisional meet, which was a non team-scoring event.

In the 800-meter run, graduate student Julia Latura powered her way to 134th overall in a strong field with a time of 2:29.72. Senior captain Tori Schweitzer was close behind, crossing in 2:36.42 for 154th overall.

The 5,000-meters was paced by junior Sarah Lynch, who recorded a personal best time of 18:48.96 to take 82nd overall. Graduate student Emily Philbrook crossed the finish line in 19:12.17 for 87th overall, while junior Sophie Owen was 89th in the race with a tiem of 19:19.33.

In the field events, rookie Kearston Nelson had a solid effort in the shot put. She posted a throw of 10.90 meters (35' 9.25") to earn 17th overall, while junior captain Emily Hesketh was 21st in the weight throw with a mark of 12.04 meters (39' 6").

The Corsairs men's squad will see select members head to the Terrier Classic on Saturday at BU's Track & Tennis Center beginning at 10am. UMass Dartmouth's women return to action on Saturday, February 7 when they head to Norton, Mass., to compete at the Wheaton Invite.
