WELLESLEY, Mass. – It was an outstanding finish to day one of the Little East Conference Championships as the UMass Dartmouth women's swimming team saw all three individual swimmers on the day advance into the evening finals. The Corsairs are currently ninth overall at the meet, backed by another personal best effort from senior
Kylie Winer in the 200-IM.
The team opened the evening action in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Winer, junior
Skye Peters, senior
Isabella Gerardi and rookie
Abby Fernandes combined for a season's best time of 1:47.97 in the event. The group finished eighth overall.
Fernandes was next in action, swimming in the championship of the 500-yard freestyle following a personal best time during the morning prelims. She posted a time of 5:48.57 in the finals swim, taking eighth overall.
Next up was the 50-yard freestyle as Peters swam in the consolation final. After a personal best in the morning prelims, Peters nearly hit it again, but fell short with a still impressive time of 26.75 to place 12th overall.
Wrapping up the individual events was Winer, who swam to fourth overall with a mark of 2:22.60. That time eclipsed the personal best set during the morning prelims (2:22.82).
The day wrapped up for the Corsairs in the 400-yard medley relay, which saw Peters, Winer, Gerardi and Fernandes once again in action. The group combined for a season's best time of 4:28.61 to earn eighth overall.
Action at the LEC Championships – hosted at the Boston Sports Institute – continues on Saturday with the morning preliminaries getting underway at 10am. Finals for all events will take place that evening, beginning at 6:30pm.
