Morrissey Nets Hat Trick In Corsair Win

Box Score

DARTMOUTH, Mass. –University of Massachusetts Dartmouth sophomore Katelin Morrissey (Taunton, Mass.) registered her first collegiate hat trick to power the Corsairs to a 4-1 Little East Conference victory over visiting Southern Maine this afternoon on a rain-soaked Cressy Field.

The Corsairs recorded their third consecutive victory to raise their overall record to 7-7, including a 5-2 mark in the conference circuit, while the Huskies suffered their second straight setback to slip to 6-8 and 3-4 in conference play.

Morrissey led the UMass Dartmouth attack with career highs in goals (3) and points (6).  The sophomore striker also tallied the game-winning goal at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 8.  Junior Emily Anderson (Medway, Mass.) produced her third marker of the season, while classmates Ali Ladue (Bridgewater State) and Jill Levrault (Somerset, Mass.) each entered the scoring column with an assist.

The Corsairs opened the scoring in the 20th minute, when Anderson blasted a shot from the middle of the arc into the lower, left corner of the net.  Eleven minutes later, the hosts padded their lead as Morrissey tipped in a feed from Ladue.

Southern Maine was able to trim its deficit to 2-1 just before the halftime intermission.  Freshman Kaylie Andrews (Kittery, Maine) inserted a penalty corner to the top of the arc, where junior Allison Ward (Rockland, Maine) set-up senior forward Peyon Dostie (Standish, Maine) for a one-timer.  Dostie ripped her 12th goal of the season through traffic and into the back of the net.

The hosts' continued to control the play in the second stanza.  Morrissey netted a pair of goals seven minutes apart to seal the important conference victory.

In between the pipes, sophomore Elizabeth St. Germaine (Wareham, Mass.) made one stop to earn the victory, while sophomore Amanda Kasbohm (York, Maine) turned aside four Corsair attempts.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 6 p.m. on Oct. 16, when the Corsairs travel to Wesleyan (Conn.) for a non-conference contest.
