Box Score SALEM, Mass. -- After trailing 1-0 at the half, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth field hockey team erupted for seven, second-half goals to defeat Salem State University, 7-2, this afternoon in a Little East Conference match at Alumni Field.
UMass Dartmouth snapped a three-game losing steak to improve to 5-7, including 3-2 in the conference circuit, while the Vikings' dropped to 1-9 and 0-5 in the LEC.
The Corsairs demonstrated their offensive depth as seven student-athletes registered at least one point. Junior Ali Ladue (Bridgewater, Mass.) and freshman Erin Kish (Littleton, Mass.) led the attack with two goals for four points, while junior Jill Levrault (Somerset, Mass.) produced a marker and a helper for three points.
Salem State struck first in the fifth minute, when Kathryn Hart (Beverly, Mass.) converted on a feed from Natalie Bourne (Tewksbury, Mass.). Vikings' goalkeeper Carolyn Woodin (Arlington, Mass.) made the early lead stand up headed into intermission, stopping four attempts, including a penalty stroke.
The hosts' were unable to keep UMass Dartmouth at-bay, as the Corsairs scored a pair of goals less than two minutes apart to seize control of the contest. Ladue gave the visitors a lead they would not relinquish in the 39th minute, putting home a pass from junior Emily Anderson (Medway, Mass.).
UMass Dartmouth began to open the flood gates in the early portion of the second stanza, scoring four markers in the span of five minutes to take a commanding 6-1 lead. Kish book-ended the surge between goals from Leverault and sophomore Katelin Morrissey (Taunton, Mass.).
Elizabeth St. Germaine (Wareham, Mass.) made three saves to earn the win, while Woodin finished the contest with 10 stops.
The Corsairs continue conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 8, when UMass Dartmouth travels to Eastern Connecticut State University for a 4 p.m. contest.
