Box Score WESTFIELD, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth senior Jill Levrault (Somerset, Mass.) accounted for both goals, including the game-winner, to lift the Corsairs to a 2-1 overtime victory over Westfield State University Saturday evening in a Little East Conference field hockey match.
UMass Dartmouth reached double digits in victories for the eighth consecutive season, improving its overall record of 10-3. The Corsairs also move into a second-place tie with Plymouth State with a 6-1 mark inside the conference circuit. The Owls slipped to 6-5 and 4-3 against Little East opponents.
Levrault produced a season-high four points to help the Corsairs rally from an one-goal deficit. The senior from Somerset, Mass. peppered the Westfield cage throughout the match, registering seven shots. Sophomore Erin Kish (Littleton, Mass.) contributed four attempts as the visitors held a 24-5 advantage in shots column.
Despite holding an 11-2 lead in shots, both teams entered the intermission tied at 0. The Owls cracked the scoring column in the 42nd minute, when Meg Doherty potted an unassisted marker, her third of the season.
UMass Dartmouth was finally able to solve Megan Fountaine in the 55th minute, as Levrault notched her sixth goal of the campaign to forge a 1-all tie. The Corsairs continued to apply the offensive pressure down the stretch, recording the final eight attempts of regulation.
In the extra session, the visitors were unable to convert two penalty corner opportunities. Sophomore Allison Burke (Franklin, Mass.) made her only save of the match to preserve the tie. Sixty-seven seconds later, Levrault drilled her seventh marker of the season to hand UMass Dartmouth its second overtime victory of the year.
The Corsairs were awarded all 17 penalty corners.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 1p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, when the Corsairs host Plymouth State University (8-3, 6-1 LEC) in a key Little East Conference contest.
