Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth utilized a well-balanced attack as four different players found the back of the net to lead the Corsairs to a 4-2 victory over Worcester State University Tuesday evening in a Little East Conference field hockey match.

UMass Dartmouth won for the sixth time in its past seven matches to improve to 7-2 on the campaign, including an unblemished 4-0 mark within the conference circuit. The Corsairs also snapped the Lancers four-match winning streak, dropping Worcester State to 5-4 and 2-2.

UMass Dartmouth raced out to an early 2-0 advantage just seven minutes, 18 seconds into the match. Sophomore Katelin Morrissey (Taunton, Mass.) cracked the scoring column in the second minute, while senior Ali Ladue (Bridgewater, Mass.) extended the visitors lead five minutes later.

However, the Lancers battled back and forged a 2-all time heading into the intermission break. Senior Erika Lepkowski (Baldwinville, Mass.) was responsible for both of the hosts' tallies.

The Corsairs scored what proved to be the eventual game-winner in the 56th minute. UMass Dartmouth created the scoring opportunity off a penalty corner, when junior Hunter Carden (Branford, Conn.) inserted the restart to freshman Ciara Anderson (Medway, Mass.). Anderson fired her attempt at the net, when senior Jill Levrault (Somerset, Mass.) redirected it into the back of the net.

The hosts added an insurance marker in the 66th minute as Carden completed a give-and-go with senior Emily Anderson (Medway, Mass.). It was her fourth goal of the season and third consecutive contest with at least a point.

Sophomore Allison Burke (Franklin, Mass.) played all 70 minutes in net and made four saves to earn the victory. Sophomore Kathryn Salemme (Boxboro, Mass.) registered eight saves in 58 minutes, 53 seconds of action, while freshman Alison Bieksha (Hubbardston, Mass.) recorded three stops in relief.

The Corsairs held a 24-10 advantage in shots, including 12 of the 14 attempts in the second half, while owning a 15-7 edge in penalty corners.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1, when the Corsairs host Roger Williams.
