Colleen Kane Surpasses 200-Career Goal Mark Against Framingham State

Box Score

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Senior Colleen Kane (Arlington, Mass.) became only the second player in UMass Dartmouth women's lacrosse program history to reach the 200 career goal mark on Thursday in a 15-13 loss at Framingham State. UMass Dartmouth pulls to 5-5, while the Rams of Framingham State improve to 7-4 on the year.

Kane led the way for the Corsairs offense on the afternoon, collecting four goals and adding one assist. She joins Katelyn Elliott '07 as the only two members of the elusive scoring club, as Elliott is the program's all-time leading scorer at 227 goals. On her career, Kane currently holds 254 points, second only behind Elliott's 285.

The game started out as a back and forth game as neither team could collect two scores in a row. 13 minutes into the first half, Corsair history was made as the senior captain from Arlington potted number 200. The goal gave the Corsairs the 3-2 lead.

Less than two minutes later, sophomore Raquel Riley (Wakefield, Mass.) gave the visitors a 4-2 advantage. The Rams answered back with two goals of their own by way of sophomore Kimberly Foley (Mansfield, Mass.) to tie the game at four.

Sophomore Leah Douty (Framingham, Mass.) followed up the Rams' goal with one of her own, and junior Catrina Longo (Billerica, Mass.) scored 16 seconds after Douty's tally.

The back-and-forth game ensued with two straight goals by Foley and junior Kristen Hoggins (Harvard, Mass.) in the final two minutes to close out the first half, with the score tied at six.

The second half played much like the first, with neither team taking total control of the game. UMass Dartmouth found the back of the net first when Longo buried a free position shot less than 90 seconds after the second half whistle. Framingham State would answer back and take its first lead of the game at the 7:20 marker in the second half, when Hoggins found the back of the net.

The game continued with both teams trading goals until 8:12 remained in regulation, when the Rams closed out the game with three unanswered goals to cap off the 15-13 victory.

Defensively, Douty led the way for the Corsair defense, causing three turnovers and picking up five ground balls. She also led the team with eight draw controls.

Freshman Kaitlyn Burchill (Bridgewater, Mass.) made nine saves in the crease for the Corsairs despite taking the loss. Her counterpart, freshman Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath (Bedford, Mass.) turned aside 10 shots for the Rams.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Little East Conference foe Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, starting at 1 p.m.
