How it Happened
After 25 minutes of back-and-forth play, UMass Dartmouth would claim the first goal on the afternoon, when sophomore Mary Brown (Leicester, Mass.) collected the rebound off the goalie and put it in the back of the cage, giving Corsairs the early advantage.
The score would remain the same until 10 minutes into the second half, when Smedberg poked the ball though the UMass Dartmouth defense, beating goalkeeper Ariel St. Germaine (Wareham, Mass.) on her blind side.
Eleven minutes later, Smedberg struck again, receiving the long pass at the top of the circle from senior Michaela Demers (Manchester, N.H.) and found a hole in the Corsairs defense on the left side of the cage. Despite an offensive onslaught, the hosts weren't able to put up an equalizer before the final whistle.
