WESTFIELD, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth football team has been selected as a participant in the 2021 New England Bowl Series. The Corsairs will host Alfred State College at Cressy Field on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m.
Saturday marks the first bowl-game appearance for the Corsairs (8-2, 6-2 MASCAC)Â since the 2004 season, and first postseason game under the guidance of 15th-year Head Coach
Mark Robichaud. UMass Dartmouth is led by sophomore quarterback
Dante Aviles-Santos, who has passed for 1,905 yards and 21 touchdowns and rushed for 276 yards and six touchdowns. 5th-year senior
Douglas Machado finished the regular season with nine receiving touchdowns and 608 yards. On the ground, junior
Luis Gonzalez recorded 836 yards and seven touchdowns, while freshman
Marvens Jean registered 772 yards and five TD's.
Defensively, senior
JP Mason led the team with 82 tackles, while junior
Josh Lacerte finished with 6.5 sacks, freshman
Sam Alicea had five sacks and 5th-year senior
Marcus Elysee took down the quarterback five times. Sophomore
Logan Chappell picked off five passes, while sophomore
Trell Best had three and 5th-year senior
Chris Gomes and junior
Shane Meerbott each had two INT's.
Alfred State posted a 6-4 overall record and a 5-1 conference mark in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) under the direction of fourth-year head coach Scott Linn. The Pioneers are led by senior quarterback Aaron Jenkins who threw for 2,211 yards and 14 touchdowns, while also running for a team-best 943 yards and 15 touchdowns.
The Corsairs are looking to match their most victories in a season since 2003 with nine, which would tie the second-most wins in program history. They are also going for their first bowl-game victory since 2003, when they beat Worcester State, 21-7, in the ECAC Northeast Bowl.
