UMass Dartmouth Sweeps Final MASCAC Weekly Awards

WESTFIELD, Mass. - 5th-year senior Douglas Machado, sophomore offensive lineman Tyler Gmyr, sophomore defensive back Trell Best and freshman Owen Quigley were named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Player, Rookie and defensive Players of the Week for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth football team.

From Swansea, Mass., Machado was named Player of the Week after his MVP performace in UMass Dartmouth's 42-16 New England Bowl victory over Alfred State in the New England Bowl. Machado finished with five catches foe 151 yards for an average of 30.2 yards per catch. Machado finished the year second in the MASCAC with nine TD catches and 84.3 yards per game.

From New London, Conn., Gmry won Rookie of the Week when he shocked the world when he received a lateral from freshman Mike Vincent and went full speed ahead, trucking through a defender at the 5-yard line to ram his way into the endzone and end up on SportsCenter's Top-10 Plays. Gmyr and the rest of the offensive line for the Corsairs helped the UMass Dartmouth rushing attack combine for 303 yards and gave quarterback Dante Aviles-Santos time to throw for 318 yards and four TD's. From West Haven, Conn., Best intercepted two passes in both the first and fourth quarter. On Alfred State's first offensive play of the game, Best stepped in front of a deep pass and came down with it at the 47-yard line to give the ball right back to the Corsair offense. The in the beginning of the fourth, the Pioneers took a shot to the endzone, but it was Best again who picked off the pass at the 1-yard to set up a 99-yard scoring drive for UMass Dartmouth. With the two picks, Best finished tied for first in the MASCAC with five interceptions.

From Medway, Mass., Quigley was named Special Teams Player of the Week. He averaged 37.4 yards on seven kickoffs for a total of 262 yards while adding a tackle in the Corsairs' 42-16 win over Alfred State in the D3 New England Football Bowl.
