WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) has announced its year-end honors in football and UMass Dartmouth student-athlete
Tyler Gmyr has been named the 2024 Offensive Lineman of the Year. It marks the first major year-end honor for the senior captain, who was also tabbed to the All-MASCAC First Team for the third time in his career.
This season has been an outstanding one for Gmyr, who has appeared in all 10 games thus far. He graded out at 97% and has allowed just one sack on the season. He has been a part of an offensive line that has helped the Corsairs rank among the best in Division III this season.
Through 10 games this season, the Corsairs offensive line has helped the squad to the third best scoring offense in the nation, averaging 54.2 points per game. The Corsairs also rank sixth in total offense (515.3 yards per game) and are eighth overall in rushing offense (251.8).
In the MASCAC, the Corsairs are first overall in 23 different categories, including total offense, team passing efficiency (175.60), scoring offense and completion percentage (.656).
Through 43 games thus far in his career, Gmyr has helped the Corsairs to a number of top spots each year of his career.
During his junior season, Gmyr started all 11 games for the Corsairs in 2023, earning First Team Offense All-MASCAC after helping to anchor an offensive line that allowed just four sacks all season. He was a key part of an offensive unit that ranked 31st in the nation with a rushing attack that ran for 2212 yards and 29 touchdowns.
As a sophomore he was a critical part of an offensive line that led the Corsairs to the best rushing attack and scoring offense in the MASCAC. UMass Dartmouth ran for 2,564 total yards, 233.1 yards per game, 5.4 yards per carry and the offense scored 40.1 points per game – all of which led the conference.
During his rookie campaign in 2021, Gmyr helped the offensive line lead the MASCAC in rushing attack that produced 2,471 total yards, 224.6 yards per game and 5.1 yards per carry. He scored a touchdown on a hook and ladder play against Alfred State that made its way across the sports shows and the internet on his way to earning First Team honors.
UMass Dartmouth, under the direction of second-year head coach and 2024 BSN Sports MASCAC Coach of the Year Josh Sylvester, returns to action on Saturday, November 30 at 12pm in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. The Corsairs travel to Springfield College, facing the 10-0 Pride in their first-ever appearance in the Second Round and third overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
