Amos DaLuz (SMU '84) saved his best four javelin throws of his career for national championships with one of them earning him third place and All-America status at the 1984 NCAA Championships held at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. A four-year letter winner for Coach Bob Dowd's SMU track and field team, DaLuz was SMU's first track athlete to earn All-America honors in the javelin. His career-best throw of 225' 2" at the 1984 national championship meet broke his own school record by 10' 10". During his career, DaLuz was named All-Eastern three times, New England Division III twice and All- New England (all divisions) once. He also qualified and competed in the NCAA Division III National Championship meet in 1982.
