If you only look at his career scoring record of 1,169 points, ranking him 31stĀ overall on the UMass Dartmouth scoring list, you would not come close to appreciating all of the contributions to Corsair basketball during that four-year span from 1987 through 1991.Ā Ā McCann was an outstanding player and scorer in his own right according to his coach Brian Baptiste. āHe had a smooth outside jumps hot and also had the ability to drive to the hoop and dunk. An incredibly versatile athlete, Greg was a pleasure to coach.āĀ Ā In McCannās four years, his teams qualified for post season play in three seasons, including three NCAA Tournament berths along with three Little East Conference Tournament championships and a pair of regular season crowns. As a first-year player he was part of a Regional Finals team, averaging 12.31 points per game. Two years later as a junior, the Corsairs went 24-6 with McCann averaging 13.6 points per game on a team that reached the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. In his final season the Corsairs were 23-6 with McCann averaging 18.5 points per game. McCann was the LEC Tournament Most Valuable Player as he finished his career with his third NCAA appearance in four years.Ā Ā McCann was an integral part of an incredible four-year run in which his teams were 81-32.
