Marques Houtman (UMD '01) was a two-time All-Little East Conference, first-team selection during his career. In 2001, he was selected to the All-LEC Tournament Team while also earning All-Eastern College Athletic Conference and National Association of Basketball, first-team honors. A tri-captain during his senior season, the Corsairs finished 25-2 overall, capturing the LEC regular season and tournament titles, advancing to the NCAA Sweet 16. A Corsair Hall of Fame inducted team, the 2000-01 cagers were ranked as high as No. 2 in some national polls. Houtman led the Corsairs in scoring (18.8 pts/game), connecting on 42% from the floor and from three-point range (63-151). He led the conference circuit in three-point shooting, while ranking fourth in scoring. Houtman was the Most Outstanding Player of the 2000 Hampton Inn Classic Tournament. Among Houtman's senior season highlights was a game-high 26 points to lead UMass Dartmouth to an 86-64 victory over Salem State in an NCAA Division III men's basketball second round game. Following his final game for the Corsairs, Houtman played in the annual New England Division III Senior All-Star game.
