Jeff Feroce (SMU, '83 and '88) is being honored for his role in founding the men's lacrosse program at UMass Dartmouth. He was part of a group of SMU students who organized the first men's lacrosse club team in 1988 and later took over as the team's assistant coach from 1989-92. He was named head coach between 1993 and 1997, earning 1996 Pioneer League Coach of the Year honors. In 1998, men's lacrosse was elevated to varsity status and Feroce was named the first varsity head coach. While also working in the UMass Dartmouth Admissions Department, Feroce brought immediate credibility and respect to the men's lacrosse program. In only his third season as a varsity program, Feroce's Corsairs went 4-2 in the Little East Conference and advanced to the tournament championship game in back-to-back campaigns. From 1998 through 2003, Feroce compiled a won-loss record of 49-32. His teams qualified for six postseason tournaments—three LEC appearances, two ECAC tournament berths, and a foray into the Pilgrim League tournament.
