Jon Violette (SMTI '71) competed in Corsair athletics in the late 1960s and early 1970s long before the sports programs moved completely over to the Dartmouth campus. Competing under the SMTI banner, Violette was a multisport athlete who excelled in two sports for three seasons. He played three years of men's basketball and competed for three seasons in track and field. In basketball, Violette scored 1,001 points in three seasons. Following his senior season, Violette was named a Southern New England College Conference All-Conference player, leading the league in foul shooting percentage (82%), while finishing second in the league and tops on his team in overall scoring with 16.8 points per game. During his junior season, he averaged 18.3 points per game and led the Corsair with 62 assists. Competing for some of the earliest track and field teams to represent the institution, Violette was a top performer in several events. At the time of his graduation, he held school records in the high jump, long jump, triple jump, one-mile relay team and was the team's all-time points scoring leader. He is being inducted posthumously following his passing in 2005.
