Bob Carroll patrolled the blue line for UMass Dartmouth ice hockey team in the early 1990s, a top defenseman for several very successful Corsair teams in his era. During the three years he was a vital part of the Corsair defense, UMass Dartmouth posted a 57-18-3 overall record that included a pair of ECAC Tournament appearances, as well as the Corsairs' first ECAC title in four seasons. Three times during his career Carroll was named to the ECAC Northeast Division III All-Star team and earned similar honors from the New England Hockey Writers as well. At the end of the 1993 season, Carroll earned the ECAC Division III Player of the Year Award as well as the prestigious J. Thom Lawler New England Division II/III Player of the Year award. He was the first UMass Dartmouth/SMU hockey player to ever be awarded the Lawler Award. In Carroll's senior year as team captain and Most Valuable Player, he was instrumental in leading the Corsairs to an outstanding season which included a three-game stretch of playoff victories including 10-0 win over Skidmore, a 6-2 win over Assumption and a 3-0 victory over Southern Maine for that season's ECAC Championship.
