In an era long before the three-point shot was introduced and while often teamed with other Hall of Fame-caliber teammates, Bill Edward quietly put together an excellent four-year men's basketball career. Playing with such greats as Kevin Phelan and General Holman, Edward was a steady contributor to Coach John Pacheco's teams in the early 1970's and former coach Bruce Wheeler's fist team in 1972-73. Although hampered by injuries during his last two years of competition, Edward still earned the distinction of reaching the 1,000-point club, scoring 1,112 points from 1969 through 1973. He was one of only 12 players of his era to reach the prestigious scoring mark. A two-time team captain as a junior and senior, Edward's best season was his junior campaign when he averaged 19 points per game before an injury shortened his season. In his freshman year, Edward averaged 13 points per game and improved that scoring average to 15 points per game as a sophomore.
